Form(an) Function
An avid fan of frozen treats, Gayle Forman gravitates toward things that melt, spill, and generally make a mess. Artist, designer, and administrator, her studio practice and research focuses on play, imagination, the absurd and the everyday. Forman Function is the design line imagined and fabricated by Gayle; employing a variety of glass techniques Forman Function strives to provide unique, handcrafted objects that can exist both as user friendly items and sculpture.
The designs are inspired by a material curiosity driven by the binary characteristics of hot glass- hot and cold, fragile and strong, hard and soft, malleable and stiff. The idea that perhaps all materials could – and should – be questioned in this manner, pressed to reveal their limitations and breaking points, opened up a world of fascinating possibilities to Gayle. By questioning how a material is used and why it works, we can start considering, what else can it do?
Currently, Gayle is located in Brooklyn, NY, researching and developing new works and ideas.
